interactive visualization of the deconstruction of language, designed at NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program | 2008
Concept
The English language can be broken down into multiple systems. Sentences contain words, each of which can be split into syllables, phonemes, and letters. Within Text Division, users may input words via the keyboard, watch their movement on the monitor, and initiate their deconstruction into phonemes through the touchscreen interface. The motion and behaviors of these language components represent their relationships to each other and the loss of meaning that occurs through their deconstruction and reconstruction. The spoken audio of the language components demonstrate the audible characteristics of each element.
Production
created with Processing using the RiTa text analysis library
Installation
Text Divison is displayed on a touchscreen monitor with text input via a keyboard and language output via a speaker. Video documentation of Text Division in the Spring 2008 show at NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program is below.
