a visualization of a survey comparing personal geographic histories to geographic preferences | 2007
survey
This experiment is a trial survey comparing personal geographic histories to geographic preferences, isolated within the 48 contiguous United States. The preference test is based upon experiments detailed in the book Mental Maps, by Peter Gould (1974). In this trial version, I interviewed 18 current NYU graduate students.

An interactive display of the results is below. The maps can be moved so that comparisons may be made by juxtaposition and overlap. Whenever the stop button is pressed, all six maps are of one single response.
The key is at the bottom.
